WHOLE FOODS: WHOLE BODY

summer blooms, whole foods market event

My typical run to whole foods is geared towards a delicious breakfast sandwich after my Sunday morning hike or a hard to find craft beer, but when I was recently invited by Whole Foods to attend their Body Care store event to learn about their health/beauty products I thought it sounded like a great opportunity to put their Whole Body department to the test.

I was immediately impressed with how much research and care go into putting the safest and best quality products out there for us to use. Unfortunately, personal care products are not regulated to the same degree that food is in the United States and with that leniency comes a host of chemicals that may be harmful to both us and the environment. It's very scary indeed and something I have really tried to avoid thinking about altogether.  Click here for some interesting info.

While at the event, I visited the Mineral Fusion makeup counter and came back with a pretty lip stain/glaze (which I naturally wore to the farmers market on Sunday to test out) and a trio of bright and pretty nail polishes that I am excited to wear all summer long!  You must stop by this section at your local Whole Foods Market.

Dave and I have been a fan of Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps for quite a while now and I really enjoyed talking to the Dr. Bronner's expert. The brand has been around since the late 1940's and continues to promote the use of fair trade and organic body care. Of course they also get you squeaky clean and smell amazing.

The fresh locally sourced flowers and delicious Italian soda are two things not to be missed for your next summer dinner party. I could sip on this soda all day long.

Once back at the house with my bag full of good-for-me goodies, I couldn't wait to really test these beauty products out during my daily routine.

organic and natural beauty products review, whole foods market

I honestly have yet to find a product that I do not like, however, I have already identified a few new favorites. In addition to the items listed above, Kreamy Soap Pine Tar Olive Bar smells like I'm in the forest with rich smelling -frollic through nature -woodsy scent. Dave stole if from me immediately.  The Makana Coconut Milk candle smells like I'm in a bakery and it resides in my bedroom for a little whiff every time I walk by it.
I was really interested to learn about organic cotton balls as I had never really thought they were necessary. Come to find that there is a legitimate difference as organic cotton is grown without the use of persistent pesticides thereby, protecting your body and the planet. I also swear that these are SO MUCH SOFTER!

One more interesting fact that I had never thought about is the impact of microbeads. You know, those little beads that help gently exfoliate your skin via body wash and face wash?  Whole Foods does not allow the use of microbeads in any of their products. Why you ask?  Also known by the names polyethylene terephthalate, polymethyl methacrylate, and nylon after they are washed down the drain, they are able to bypass sewage treatment plants due to their size and have been shown to get into freshwater and ocean environments, contributing to aquatic toxicity. I will no longer be purchasing products with microbeads.

I really appreciate the Whole Foods standards for body products and will be paying a lot more attention to what I use going forward. Whole Foods loves you so much that they are offering San Diego area King & Kind readers 25% off all body care products this Friday, June 27th. Just give this coupon to the cashier at your checkout and enjoy incorporating these products into your regimen!
