This week has been one of the happiest and saddest as I head towards a BIG birthday. I have so many things to look forward to. My husband planned the best weekend to celebrate my birthday early (it's on the 20th) since he's heading out of town and gave me an AMAZING gift you will soon see on the blog. My BFF is coming from Cincinnati for some girl fun! Alternatively, my childhood dog Zoe has been diagnosed with a terminal illness and I have a very difficult decision to make. She is 14 1/2 years old and it's inoperable so it's a matter of timing and comfort for her. I have had Zoe since I was 15 years old. We got our driver's license, graduated from high school, went to college (yes she came with me), moved in with Dave, got engaged, moved to San Diego, got married, and we may or may not get to celebrate my big 3-0 together. I honestly don't remember what life is like without her hanging around and I know there will be a big void.  Not to be a downer but it's just so confusing when things that are so great and so sad are happening at the same time.

I hope you have a really lovely weekend, fun things are coming next week on King & Kind that I can't wait to share with you.

  1. Im so sorry about your pup- I totally understand how hard that is. My little cat was 17 when we had to put her down- she was with me from 2nd grade through college, law school, my engagement, etc. still miss her!

    1. Thank you Christina, you are so sweet. 17 years is such a long time, that must have been really hard for you.

  2. I am so sad about your dog! but also, happy early birthday! I have two dogs and as crazy as it sounds, sometimes I get sad even thinking that someday they won't be here. I hope she stays comfortable and happy as long as possible!

And I as odd as it sounds, maybe consider looking at new puppies or a new dog for after, it will really help with closing the void (gosh, Im getting sad writing this!) and make the house feel less sad. That made it easiest for me when my childhood cat died after 15 years, we had a new kitten within a few weeks. We still miss her, but it helped us not be as sad!

    1. Thanks Bridget, for the sweet words. I think I might take a break from having a pet for awhile. I don't know what it's like without a dog! I do hear that getting a new pet helps with the grieving.
